How we PAID NOTHING for a long Ferry trip in NORWAY | EP 9

One of our favourite day adventures in Norway, a Boat, Bike and Hike to the Svartisen Glacier. On route we visit Saltstraumen which has the worlds largest tidal current which can generate whirlpools up to 10m in diameter.

Next it’s onto the Svartisen Glacier, we park up over night at Holand Tourist Office (250NOK Cash or VIPPS ) a short distance from the Ferry over to the Glacier. We catch the first Ferry of the day taking our bikes over as it’s a bit of a slog along a dirt track to the good stuff where the climb up to the Glacier starts. It was amazing hiking up to it! 😀

After returning we continue our journey south, taking two FREE Ferry’s before Michelle finds an incredible parkup by the waters edge for the night.

  • I see you parked overnight in one of my favourite spots along the Norwegian coast – Aldersundet. Fun fact about the location: From 1966 to 1997, an Omega radio navigation array for nuclear submarines was located there. It involved stretching an antenna across from the peak you see at 15:46 on the island across the sound to the top of the peak you camped underneath on the mainland – a total span of 3 500 meters. Nothing remains of the system today, except the empty base station below the mainland peak, and you can still make out the points where the antenna was attached to the top of the mountain.

  • I was about to ask how far did the Glacier come down, then you showed the photos, what an amazing and interesting place Norway is, fabulous free park up

  • I see you have an ecoflow. Have you thought about getting the Alternator charger they do? We have one and its a gamechanger!!
