South Africa’s rand slumps to 18-month low amid U.S. tariffs

South Africa’s rand fell to its lowest level in 18 months, trading at 19.58 against the U.S. dollar, a drop of 2.4 percent from the previous Friday’s close. The currency’s decline comes as President Donald Trump maintains a firm stance on U.S. tariff plans. South African officials have indicated that they will engage in discussions with the U.S. to address the situation.
