Singapore tightens monetary policy for first time since 2022, raises inflation forecast

Inflation in Singapore is expected to be higher than previously forecast, amid the Middle East conflict. The Monetary Authority of Singapore has raised inflation forecasts for 2026 to an average of 1.5% to 2.5%, up from 1% to 2%. To brace for impact, the central bank has also tightened monetary policy settings for the first time in over three years. Meanwhile, new GDP figures show Singapore’s economy unexpectedly slowed at the start of the year. Beatrice Yap reports.

  • For years, cost of things had gone up & up. Nothing come down at all even during peaceful time.

  • Pres Trump has opened the Strait of Hormuz. China is meeting with Trump soon and USA will partner with Indonesia. Waiting to see if, USA leaves NATO since, they chose to turn the back to an ally.

  • Singapore has become a hellish place due to overcrowding, heat and humidity with nights at 27-29C in high humidity. Due to the ultra-high salary of the ministers, they lead such comfortable lives there is no need to care if the average folk suffers. No European nation will allow FDWs or construction workers from south Asia to be paid such low wages and have their passports locked away by their employers. My friends in Europe were indignant that Singapore and gulf nations continue to practice ‘modern slavery’. believed we may go down the same path.

LKY made the biggest mistake in setting such high salaries for ministers. His argument that it will prevent corruption is so flawed. His only wish is to keep his fleet strong while everyone else stays weak. When someone is in high-office, there’s so much attention and monitoring that they naturally fear taking the wrong path. How many leaders in the west became corrupt even with their average salaries? They did better than Singapore. Why is it that Scandinavian homes have triple-glazed windows for decades while Singapore urban planners have done zero to shield us from the heat? Have you ever asked yourself if you enjoy the outdoors lately? You have picked your own path of suffering.

Because it’s impossible to enjoy the outdoors, most of us are forced to hide indoors at the malls and at home. This forced sedentary lifestyle is the reason CNA news reported half a million Singaporeans have kidney disease.
