  • Sorry guys, correction – Scarlett is a Singapore-based Chinese supermarket chain. It’s not from China. Their own website describes it as a “China supermarket”. Apologies

  • At the end of the day, the market will always decide. If people don’t like some of these mainland Chinese flavours, less people will buy and the stalls will close. Conversely, if more people like it, the stalls will thrive. And to survive, I’m sure the stalls will localize their food too to meet the local taste. Char Kway Teow is a fine example. If you notice, Singapore’s version of Char Kway Teow is very different from the original Teochew version back in China. It’s the same for Singapore’s Hainanese Chicken Rice, when compared with Hainan’s version in China.

  • sadly, not civilized enough. there are aunties that will take free chili sauce, free salt or pepper, free tissues from public toilets, free umbrella covers, etc.

  • Sg is so infiltrated its not even funny. PRC with singapotean citizenship working in Astar literally told me she would bring her kids back to china every year so they know their allegence, the entire family is prc to sg. My neighbours chasnged in the last 10 years are almost 40% PRC families 7/20units….

  • China is everywhere in the world. It’ s their way to become the next superpower in economy. This being said, I think Singapore government should step up to welcome people of any country within a permissible quota.

  • For all those Singaporeans who are still in the dark about just how bad the food quality and safety standards in China can be, search for the channel ‘China Observer’ and type ‘fake food’ or ‘toxic food’ into the channel’s search bar. You’ll never want to buy from or dine at a Chinese establishment again.
