*New laws effective April 2024* | not updated- 4 Steps to get your Driver’s License Norway! Vlog#24

I hope this video is helpful with the already overwhelming process of moving to a new country!

Step 1:
Order tax registration form. You will need this to apply and turn in your Driver’s license

Step 2:
Understand your time lines:
One of these 13 non-EU/EEA

Rule that is clear as mud on the website.
3 months from the day you land in Norway to turn in DL and get a temp before you are unable to legally drive. However, as long as you turn it in before 1 year, you can still take just the driving portion/practical. If after 1 year, you will be made made to start from the beginning as a new driver would with courses, driving, first aid, theory tests.

Step 3:
•get on Staten Vegens website to book appt to avoid long waits (1 1/2 to 2 weeks out in the Stavanger area)
•turn in DL with application (printed and filled out, May be able to do online)
•get temp

Optional Step 3B:
•driving school- we used Olavs and they were great. Erik was awesome! 1-3 practices depending on the feedback you receive.
-if you use a driving school then you will release power of attorney for them to schedule your driving test with Staten and they will take care of everything. It Was very nice to have the help. You must rent a car from them as they need a car with double brakes.

Step 4:
Take your practical driving test at Staten. If you pass, you will be instructed to order your DL on the website if you have already taken a picture. If not, you will be directed back into Staten to take your picture and order your DL.
Receive in the mail within 1 week.

Um, why not use the websites own translations instead of googles translations?
Norwegian websites often have a English flag that represents that site in English and the translations there is often better then google translate.
It varies how much of the site is translated, but for things like this anything relevant is likely to be available in English.

  • Fyi: The national websites you used have proper English translations. Those are aften much better than using Google translate on Norwegian text.
Great job on the video as usual!

  • I would love a video on the biggest differences, surprises, culture shocks for you and your family living in Norway compared to the US. What was the WTF moments? There must be a few 🙂 And you can be frank about it, like how introverted Norwegians are, how “how are you” is considered an actual question and not a greeting etc etc
