FOMC Price Action Around USD: EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CAD

FOMC Price Action Around USD: EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CAD. In this video, James Stanley discusses:

The big day is almost here, and we only get four of these per year. In many cases there’s little up for debate but that’s not the case for tomorrow, as markets continue to expect the Fed to cut at least two times this year yet many members of the FOMC seem cautious given the possible inflationary impact of tariffs.

USD has been in a hard sell-off for much of the first half of the year, on the heels of a massive rally in Q4, and that bearish trend has been driven by a combination of slowing inflation and rising expectations for rate cuts. The big question now is whether the Fed will lean into that or whether they’ll try to avoid the topic, pushing rate cut expectations towards 2026, out of fear that tariffs may produce more inflation.

There’s little expectation for any actual moves at tomorrow’s meeting but because it’s a quarterly meeting, the FOMC will furnish updated guidance and projections, which they haven’t done since March. This means the big driver will probably be from the Fed’s dot plot matrix, or where they bank anticipates rates going this year and beyond.
