Armed land invaders in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, are openly selling stolen plots for as little as R100 — and despite a permanent court order, months of police operations, and repeated appeals to politicians, not a single arrest has been made.

In this extended Newsflash episode, Joe Emilio exposes the shocking events unfolding on privately owned land in West Acres, near the Mbombela Stadium. The land, owned by Mr. Terry Mdluli, has been under a permanent court order since August 2021 to prevent unlawful occupation. But in June 2025, large groups of invaders returned, armed with weapons, chainsaws, and even a TLB to cut roads for their illegal settlement.

What’s happened since is a masterclass in government failure:
• 30 June: SAPS and the Sheriff retreat due to “aggression.”
• 3 July: Four officers face armed threats — retreat again.
• 9 July: Gunshots fired near homes — no police follow-up.
• 18 July: Invaders threaten workers with petrol bombs — SAPS retreats.
• August: POPs unavailable, or operations end within hours after “resistance.”

Despite crimes including trespassing, malicious damage to property, contempt of court, and illegal land sales — not one arrest has been made.
SAPS officials claim they cannot evict without a “perimeter fence” and fear potential civil claims against the station, which is ranked 8th in South Africa for such cases.

The scale of the operation:
Plots now sell for R6,000 on Facebook. Trees are cut, land burned, and stands marked. Residents report many invaders are foreign nationals, yet no IDs or immigration checks are done. Weapons are visible, but no searches or confiscations take place.

Political inaction:
DA MPL Teboho Sekaledi raised the matter in Parliament, demanding the MEC escalate to the Minister within 24 hours. No feedback. Municipal efforts to demolish illegal structures have failed due to lack of coordination and immediate retreats when faced with resistance.

This is not just a Mbombela problem — it’s a South African problem. Weak enforcement, the PIE Act, and political cowardice have turned land grabs into a low-risk, high-reward crime.
