Tesla Model X savings after 150k km/93k mi

I estimated that after almost 2 years and 150k km/93k mi of driving my Tesla Model X, I have saved 360k NOK/38k EUR/45k USD in fuel, toll roads and ferries. In this video I walk you through the cost breakdown.

  • Purely based on fuel savings and maintenance I save €0,21/km in the Netherlands. I compared my former Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI with my eTron 55. Further incentives you get are no road tax (€1080 per year savings). If this would be a leased car (which it is not), this would result in another tax benefit of nearly €3000 net per year. This would save about €7650 annually (driving 18.000km/year), or €0,43/km. And the eTon is more comfortable and luxurious than the Q5 I had.

  • Judging by your video’s you forgot a very significant EV cost factor: more hamburgers and drinks. Easily 50k NOK!

  • 12l/100km is very conservative… it’s closer to 9l/100km. Anyhow… I have an added incentive to have EV… Solar panels… I have a roof full… That will keep the cost down on the sunny days, but it’s only a 20A feed so not so fast charging, but it’s enough for my family’s needs.

  • this hole calculation would not even closely works in Germany, Price for Gas is 40% less than in Norway and electricity is about 350% more
    lets say you need
    12,7 KWh/100 km for an e-Golf (NEFC) = 12,7KWh * 0,3€/KWh = 3,81€
    4 Litre Diesel /100 km for an Golf Diesel (NEFC) = 4 l * 1,20€/l = 4,8€

so you can just save aprox. 20% for gas, or 1€ for 100km

And the cost for an E-Golf are 35.900€
The cost for an Diesel Golf are 23.600€

when you calculate when the gap of 12.000€, and want to repay it to yourself in gas savings:
    12.000€ * 1€/100km = 1.2 Million KM
I think a small car like the Golf is build for like 200k KM.

FunFact: the Price of the electricity is so high, because we have about 55% Tax on it for the enviroment^^

  • I hear EV’s have to change tires more often. Also it seems like the insurance premiums are higher (don’t know if that is the case with Norway). Probably should have been included in your cost too analysis.

  • I doubt you’d drive this much if you had to pay for fossil fuels, so I’m not sure if it’s really “savings,” but rather a difference.

  • Well, that`s what incentives can do. In a country like france/germany/austria that calculation looks entirely different….
